AgroForestry - Solution for New Age Farmers - Halatu Honnu

When any human cannot survive with a lifestyle against the Nature, how can a farmer live happily if he leads a life against it?! Aren't farmers human beings?!

Current generation of farmers should recall how their grand, great-grand fathers did farming. There were no governments to waiver the farmer loans. Number of farmers shopping seeds to sow in their fields was very very less then, and of course, chemical usage was unknown back then.

Borders of every farm land used to be filled with lush green tall and wide trees filled with flowers and fruits. Jackfruit, Tamarind, Drumstick, Champak, Jambolan, Neem, Yakki, Red Dates, Balavala, Seetaphal (Custard Apple), Ramphal, Jaaly and many other trees were the living borders of all the farms.

Never ending shade of line of trees while traveling from one town to the next made everyone feel much better compared to traveling the same distance in current environment.

With the changing mindset, farmers began to think "shade of a tree is something bad for them" and started cutting down big trees. Farmers forgot the fact "good-rain and food-harvesting" can exist only if trees exist.

  •    Then rainy regions are now partly raining;
  •    Then partly rainy regions are now open fields;
  •    Then open fields are today's deserts!

Harsh hitting site of barren lands make travellers' eyes get burning sensation while traveling from one town to the other!

Not only farmers but every life on the planet can have live experience of 'what's a hell' if we do not correct the course of our actions at the current stage where we only have "either drought or floods".

Farmers have greater responsibility in dealing with cliemate change. They can enjoy a bit only if they fill the land with enough vegetation.

  •    At least grow 'straight-and-tall' trees along the borders of farming land.
  •    Adopt AgroForestry instead of open field farming.
  •    Find crops which can grow beneath trees.

  •    Farmers can have year around income if they adopt multicrop methods.
  •    Farmers can utilize 100% of their land by adopting layered crop method.
  •    Instead of looking at immediate income, have long sighted crop plans and Be a Smart Farmer!
