No Hindi imposition, But..! - Halatu Honnu

Most of the times, we see keywords like "Hindi imposition" making noise in media. "Hindi imposition" has become one of the major political weapon or tool for many parties in the country. It's a matter of political survival for many!

"If they are against only Hindi, then it's not really their love for their mother tongue but just their political drama for gaining the power."
"If they are against any language other than their native one, then..."

Even though many are affected by non-native languages, I keep aside Tamilians, Telugaits, Malayalis or any other societies for a moment now.

Let's concentrate on buzz words "Hindi imposition" in the context of Karnataka and Kannada.

How much Kannada is used by Kannadigas in their day-to-day life?
No, I'm not just asking "how many Kannadigas can manage to talk in Kannada".

There are a lot of ways we need and use a language in a day from the moment we open our eyes in the morning - till we close back our eyes for sleep at night.
Out of the countless needs and usages, how many are fulfilled by Kannada and how many are filled by non-Kannada?!

Linguistic rights come with linguistic duties!

1

Karnataka is home for a lot of educational institutions (consider only till 10th standards here). Every year lakhs of children pass out from these institutions.

How many children pass out from Hindi medium schools and how many from English medium?

How many private schools genuinely educate children using Kannada medium in the state?

How many Kannada parents are willing to admit their children to a Kannada medium school?

2

How many Kannadigas use electronic gadgets (Mobile, Laptop, TV, IoT, digital assistants like Alexa, Siri, Cortana, etc.)?

More than half of them? Or nearly 70 - 90 % of them?

Out of those 70 - 90% Kannadigas using electronic gadgets,
How many Kannadigas use Kannada in their gadgets?

No, I’m not asking how many Kannadigas can type Kannada words using English letters, that's not a way to strengthen Kannada.

Then, Do they use Hindi in their gadgets?
No, most of them use paradeshi language - English!!!

Did anyone say "Kannada is not supported in my gadget?!"

Well, that's because the manufacturer of your gadget thinks "it's not worth investing in Kannada language support in their product(s)"!

And, manufacturers think so due to less people demanding Kannada in their products!

There are many Bharatian hotel and restaurant companies which have their outlets or branches in other countries.

In those offshore branches (especially in non-English countries like Spain, Germany, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Arab/Gulf countries), employees and environment would be aligned with the native language.

For example, if a Bharatian hotel company opens a branch in Germany, Then company deploys employees who are fluent in German language.

There are so many hotels and restaurants doing business in Karnataka.

At the least, how many of them have their menus written in Kannada (along with English or any other language)?

4

Most of the govt letters, applications, documents are present neither in Kannada nor in Hindi, but they are present in paradeshi English!

Most of the bank and other office letters, applications, documents are present neither in Kannada nor in Hindi, but they are present in paradeshi English!

Most of the judiciary documents are present neither in Kannada nor in Hindi, but they are present in paradeshi English!

5

How many of the Kannada media houses (both - digital and print media) use Kannada in them (not Kanglish, but Kannada)?

I still remember, few years ago (before new media channels started booming in the market) all channels used Kannada in them not Kanglish.

But slowly, using paradeshi English words in a Kannada sentence was pushed into the society by many media houses which resulted in huge damage to the growth of Kannada vocabulary.

They made it such a way that everyone started thinking "using Kanglish is of some sort of prestige" and "a person who speaks all words of a sentence in Kannada is uneducated"!

If Kannada media houses broadcast their programs for Kannadigas, Why is there a space given for paradeshi English within those programs?
Anyway the audience is Kannadiga community, why not broadcast programs in Kannada instead of Kanglish and there by teach pure Kannada to Kannadigas of the time?

Linguistic rights come with linguistic duties!

Such examples can be countless. All they point out is:

"Hindi may be a problem of future but English is the threat at present.
Stop English imposition before talking about Hindi or any other language!
And check if you're against Hindi imposition or against any non-native language imposition!"

If you're thinking "English is better than Hindi", then you can read out related article here.

Modi or BJP (any person or entity) cannot destroy Kannada (or any language). What destroys a language is its own people who do not use their own language efficiently.

"Before you yell "Hindi imposition" next time, just check your day to find out "How truly you love Kannada"! And remember.., Kannada has lost a lot and is still loosing against English!

Wish i could convey this article message to people of Bharat (non-Kannadigas) via Swadeshi Samskruta (Sanskrit) instead of Paradeshi English!
